help for families of childhood cancer patients

Volunteer for Weekly Wish List

BIG Love Cancer Care

Our Weekly Grocery List Program provides all children, teenagers and their caregivers at Texas Children's Hospital Cancer Unit and Dell Children's Medical Center with an opportunity to request on a weekly basis special grocery or comfort items that they might desire such as: detergent, toiletries, toys, blankets, socks, puzzles, special snacks, or books. At the beginning of each week, a grocery wish list with a $25 budget is given to each cancer family. After acquiring the lists, a B.I.G. Love volunteer shops for all the cancer patients and their families and delivers the requested items to the child's room before weeks end. Volunteers are needed to collect lists as well as help shop for and deliver grocery items to each family on the cancer unit.

Because our grocery volunteers are going room to room on the cancer unit, they are required to not only go through an interview and training session with BIG Love, but will also be required to attend the training program at the Children's Hospital. This will require an application process and background check. For TCH, you will be required to have a TB test and flu shot. For DCMC, you will be required to have two TB tests, flu shot and copy of immunization record.
