B.I.G. Love Cancer Care was established in February of 2007 in memory of five-year-old Brooke A. Phillips with one primary focus—to ease the childhood cancer journey. B.I.G. Love Cancer Care’s core mission is to meet the most vital and urgent physical, emotional, and financial needs of our pediatric oncology and hematology patients and their families through our 20 programs at six Texas-based hospitals and beyond.
Our lives changed forever when our three year old daughter Brooke was diagnosed with leukemia. After two years of fighting courageously through intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, our sweet girl passed away at the age of five. However, she did not depart this life without first leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, hope and BIG Love.
BIG Love Cancer Care was established in February of 2007 in memory of Brooke with one primary focus…to ease the childhood cancer journey. The organization’s primary mission is to bring immediate care through physical, emotional and financial support to cancer kids and their families every single day.
In 2007, the organization’s first program provided catered meals and gift baskets for families during each holiday at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. BIG Love programming expanded to Texas Children’s Hospital in Katy, TX in 2011, to Dell Children’s Medical Center of Austin in 2014 and to Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands in 2016. On January 8, 2018, BIG Love Cancer Care was asked by MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital to join their pediatric oncology team. In 2020, BIG Love extended to Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Today, the organization reaches more than 100,000 patients and their families annually, offering 20 programs at SIX Texas hospitals, 52 weeks a year.
One of our 17 year old cancer patients commented that, “B.I.G. Love is the biggest blessing any cancer patient could ever ask for.” Without a doubt, this is the reason BIG Love exists…to serve the youngest and sickest in our communities. We are present, available and always willing to meet the most basic and pressing needs of our pediatric patients immediately! By providing over 20 service-based programs, including our weekly wish list and groceries, comfort items, toys, catered meals, holiday joy and other financial assistance, we hope to enable these young fighters to win each day with courage, strength, faith and confidence.
